Newark OKs 589 homes on city’s western edge

Published Friday March 11

NEWARK — The City Council gave the green light for almost six hundred properties to be built on the western edge of the city.

The Council on Thu unanimously approved the Gateway Station West along Willow Street on a former industrial site. The 589 properties on 41 acres will include 321 detached houses, with the rest being townhouses.

This is ground that has been useless that will be cleaned up and beautified, Mayor Alan Nagy remarked at the project’s earlier public hearing.

As part of the project, developer Integral Communities will donate land along the western edge for a public bayside trail. It will be eligible to be included in the San Francisco Bay Trail.
